Support for Teachers
Educational change requires both high-quality teaching methods and materials and sustained professional development in the use of those tools. The KU-CRL staff is prepared to foster success as your school implements Xtreme Reading.
Members of KU-CRL's International Professional Development Network are highly experienced in using and teaching others about our interventions.
Continuing professional-development opportunities are vital to a successful Xtreme Reading program. Professional development must be viewed as a continuous process involving at least four phases:
- initiation (to give basic information about Xtreme Reading to help teachers determine alignment between the class and existing instructional needs)
- learning and implementation (to give in-depth explanations, models, practice, and feedback)
- follow-up support (to support teachers' efforts through coaching, troubleshooting, support-team meetings, and instructional refinement)
- maintenance (to routinize use of the innovation associated with Xtreme Reading)
